The New Year Kicks Off with SEASON OF THE WITCH!

I just don't know what to say.

This is Bennett, taking a break from kidnapping John Matrix's daughter.

Caught the tense, psychological, intelligent thriller, Season of the Witch as the first film of the new decade. Okay, I lied. It's none of those things.

Nic Cage? Check.
Period piece? Check.
That dude that played Hellboy? Check.

This film has it all: a bad cast, a bad story, bad effects, and a bad concept. And guess what? I enjoyed it. I didn't hate it, not at all. I wouldn't buy it, nor would I purposefully spend any money on it... but I would definitely not turn it off if I accidentally turned it on. It reminds me of the classic Stallone film, Driven.

So Nic Cage and Hellboy have to escort a witch to some monastery somewhere in some fashion to get her like cured or something.  Hijinks ensue.  You all know this.  Things get creepier and creepier as they make their way to Some Monastery, and you wonder if they'll even make it there, much less manage to kill/cure/save the witch, played by a very cool, very intense Claire Foy.  And then at the end we've all learned a really awesome lesson and we've all grown as people. Right after the exorcism.  Oh, spoiler alert.  Oh come off it, I started this review more than six months ago and just found it so I figured I'd finish the last couple paragraphs.  I can't even remember this movie at all, which, come to think of it, gives this review an interesting perspective.

Right.  Well, like I said in the beginning, I'd watch this again, any time, if I don't have to pay for it.  It's certainly better than getting impaled by an Austrian-propelled steel pipe.
